My Lord,
With reference to Your Lordship's
Despatch No. 199 of the 15th. ultimo, I have the honour
to state that, in anticipation of your approval Mr. A. J.
Darby was permitted to draw his maximum salary from the
1st. May to the 31st. July inclusive. As, however, Your
Lordship has decided that Mr. Darby cannot draw the max-
-imum salary of his appointment until July, 1912, and as
it would inflict considerable hardship on that Officer to
require him to make a refund, I have arranged that Mr.
Darby should revert to his salary of £390 per annum as
from the 1st. instant, and that the date on which he will
receive his maximum should be postponed for 3 months, i.e.
till October, 1912. I trust that this arrangement will
meet with Your Lordship's approval.
